The International Telecommunication Union (based in Geneva, Switzerland) released the ICT Development Index 2014. Denmark (with the capital Copenhagen) was in the fore of the index, which ranks more than 160 countries. The positions 2 to 5 went to South Korea, Sweden, Iceland and United Kingdom.

In spring The Next Web Conference Europe took place at Amsterdam (Netherlands), where many start-ups presented, especially the 5 fastest growing start-ups in 7 European countries.
